Delete Social Media
This video from an Orthodox Bishop calls on humanity to stop using social media. He repeats observations about the nature of the technology that I’ve been thinking about, and written about, for years. This reminder has nudged me to return to my practice pre-X. While I’m not going to delete my accounts on social media platforms I’m going to stop most, if not all, posting and commenting.
I wrote earlier this week about authoritarianism at the Christian Civic League of Maine. I now realize that I carried on in that mode up to this day. I’ve done so because of my own pride. The Holy Spirit is asking me to make some adjustments beyond what I’m committing to here. I’ll continue to blog my journey, as I have since I started publishing in my own name online.
I decided to blog after resigning from the ministry I led nearly twenty years ago because I decided that was the safest way for me to publish online. This, I now know, has done more than anything else to protect my soul.
In the blog post on authoritarianism I used the word “identity.”
Watch this helpful conversation about the subject if you’re curious.
Amen.
