He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. — Luke 1:32–33

A Reigning King?

The human soul cannot bury the idea. Get a few of us together for any period of time and we’ll create a hierarchy. As a school boy the strongest boy got to be King of the Hill. All the others found positions in relation to him, after the authority was proved and accepted. King of the Hill must be banned on modern playgrounds. I can’t imagine the “progressive” school system ever allowing such rough and obviously chauvinistic horse play.

If even children naturally go there why would we not expect the Bible to give Jesus Christ kingly attributes like “greatness,” “Son of the Most High,” and ruler of a “kingdom” with no end. He sits on the “throne of his father David” and “will reign over the house of Jacob forever.”

Them’s fighting words, I’d say. Jesus Christ is NOT just a baby in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes. He isn’t an innocent darling dumpling that we unwrap at the end of each calendar year. Listen to how John the Revelator describes the baby born in that feeding trough, “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.  His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”

The baby grew up … to become the most powerful and bloody warrior in the universe. He slays whole NATIONS.

And what, do you suppose, he makes war on? Oh, right, he makes war on your obesity. He is the guy you pray to to get thin. He’s the God of heaven who preserves America’s status as the richest, and most materialistic nation the world has ever known. Jesus makes war for the modern state of Israel, of course. We pray continually to him for the preservation of the most closed and religiously discriminating nation in the world. We pray to the Jesus Christ they killed to preserve them in their sodomy and usury. Makes perfect sense to me. Not.

NO! Jesus makes war for RIGHTEOUSNESS. Nations … especially Israel … are nothing more than worldly governments and societies. Jesus Christ makes war for something far more precious. He wars for the souls of humanity. He wants YOU to be with Him forever in heaven.

Stop for just a minute in your social media induced coma of scrolling shopping frenzy and imagine this FACT. The God of the universe preserves this holiday in the world SO THAT you — personally — can be introduced to the FACT of His birth. Stop! He … God …. wants ….. to love you in righteousness, truth, beauty and peace. He doesn’t care whether you’re an American or an Israelite. He loves you just the same. And He has a plan for your life.

In a way, you’re already living it. If you want to love Him back you must turn away from your sins, and turn toward Him. Through His Church he’ll do the rest, he’ll show you the way.

Are you tired of democracy, debate and denial of the truth. Tired of all the lies, deceit and entertainment? Good. There’s a way out. There isn’t a pit deep enough, or dark enough, to extinguish the light of God’s love for you. Satan is the master of lying. He never stops.

No addiction is so powerful that it cannot be overcome on the narrow path with Jesus Christ. The mercy of Jesus is beyond knowing. It transcends our human understanding. He forgave the thief hanging next to him on the cross. He told him that he’d be with Him in paradise that day! It’s never too late.

The West is resurrecting the idea of a King.

May 2020 be a coronation.

Amen.
